JEFFERSONVILLE, Ind. (WHAS11) — A Clark County Corrections Officer is facing charges after police say he crashed his car into a Jeffersonville School.

Police say the man tried to flee the scene and even fought with officers when they arrived.

It’s a bizarre story that gets stranger as new details emerge.

what the unfortunate driver is now

Police were called to the scene of the Clark County Middle/High School Alternative to Suspension Program office at around 2:30 a.m. after a fire alarm sounded when the building was struck on its side.

The driver initially fled, according to police, but later said he was engaging in a sex act when he ran off the road.

Bricks and broken glass showed the force of impact the car had when it plowed into the school.

While the damage was bad, school officials say it could have been worse.

“It’s actually a side that we don’t use. It’s probably the only piece of the building that we don’t use. We were preparing to make it a GED classroom,” Assistant Superintendent Travis Haire said.

The man who police say was behind the wheel was 25-year-old Damien Conn, a Corrections Officer for the Clark County Sheriff’s Office.

Police say when they arrived at the scene, Conn was found walking in the parking lot of a nearby church.

They say he assaulted the arresting officer before being taken into custody and charged with battery of a police officer, resisting arrest and leaving the scene of an accident.

The arrest report indicates Conn told officers he ran off the road while a woman in his car was performing a sex act on him.

Police indicated in the report that they couldn’t find anyone else at the scene.

Conn was released from jail Monday morning.

We went to his house to try to talk to him about the incident, but he wasn’t there.

“He’s at the doctor’s office right now. He’s probably got a concussion,” one of Conn’s family members said.

Clark County Sheriff Danny Rodden said he was too busy to talk about the incident on Monday.

The sheriff’s office confirmed that Conn has been an employee of the department for one and-a-half years.

Conn is charged for battery to police, resisting arrest and leaving the scene of an accident.
